ALIWEN
Valorizing research on plants
Tree management in urban areas. Aliwen provides an integrated service to managers of public and private green spaces. They diagnose tree problems using a visual analysis, combined with tools using the latest technology, to determine the tree?s potential danger (tomograph) as well as its strength and when it might die (chlorophyll fluorescence). The ultimate aim is to provide recommendations for the most reliable treatment or maintenance options which are most suitable for a long-term management plan. All of the information collected is stored in an innovative computerised management tool. Aliwen also carries out its own research into ways to improve the conditions in which trees are planted to guarantee growth and thus contribute to the sustainable development of urban areas.
The Aliwen Tree Manager © computerised management tool. Aliwen has developed a database which can be accessed online with a confidential login name and password. Tens of thousands of trees are given their very own identity cards which include information about their species, their geographical location, the characteristics of the area where they are growing, their state of health, as well as any treatments they have undergone and for how long. Searches can be based on a range of criteria, either among all trees in the area, or for a particular site, and then viewed on a user-friendly map. A full history, including everything that has been done to a particular tree, a whole site, or all the trees of the area is kept to make sure that traceability is guaranteed, and biodiversity can be managed as effectively as possible.
Why our region ?
A spin-off of the Université Libre de Bruxelles since 2003, Aliwen is totally at home in Biopark Charleroi Brussels South.
